Amy Shepard

CFP®, RMA®, BFA®, MBA, Partner, Financial Planner

Amy stumbled into the world of financial planning by accident. After several stints in college (architecture, mathematics, and secondary education, to name a few), she finally settled on a Bachelor’s in Accounting. While searching for a new work adventure in 2013, she found a position with a company called LearnVest – a fintech startup with a powerful mission to get comprehensive financial plans in the hands of as many Americans as possible. It was there she found her passion for personal financial planning.

At LearnVest, she spent about five years working with individuals and families, creating financial plans that helped them achieve their goals while also leading a team of financial planners to do the same. LearnVest was acquired by Northwestern Mutual. As a result, Amy spent the next year leading her team to teach the Northwestern Mutual nationwide field-force how to do comprehensive financial planning using the software LearnVest created. While it was work she enjoyed, she missed working with clients.

After hearing Dana speak about Sensible Money at a Financial Planning Association meeting in 2018, Amy was thrilled to find a firm with a mission that resonated – to create the freedom to live life without the thought of money. Amy joined Sensible Money in mid-2019 and is so happy to be working with clients again. In January of 2022, Amy became one of the first two Partners at Sensible Money.

Amy has a Bachelor’s in Accounting and an MBA. She is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, a Retirement Management Advisor®, and a Behavioral Financial Advisor™. She has served as a Board Member for the Financial Planning Association of Greater Phoenix and is actively involved in the CFP Board’s Mentor Program. She also frequently contributes to financial topics in major news outlets such as MarketWatch, Grow/Acorns, Forbes, Arizona Republic, and TheStreet.

Outside of work, Amy enjoys spending time with her husband, their three kids, and their two dogs. She enjoys food (cooking and eating!), game shows, the occasional bingo outing, and traveling – they have a goal to take a family picture in all 50 states!
